About us

In 1972, three brothers called Jan, Gerrit and Henk Mauritz started an avenue tree nursery in Opheusden under the name Combinatie Mauritz. The next generation is now also working in the company – one son of each brother, Henk, Erik and Wouter Mauritz. Over the years, the nursery has grown into a business covering around 160 hectares of land.

Partly due to its size and specialist know-how, Combinatie Mauritz has become one of the leading companies located in one of the largest avenue tree cultivation centres in Europe.

Combinatie Mauritz is situated in the avenue tree centre of Opheusden village, where the Betuwe is at its narrowest, between the Rhine and Waal rivers on fertile clay soil. We produce avenue trees, ornamental trees and park trees, as well as a broad assortment of topiary trees and fruit trees, cultivated both in open ground and in containers. The assortment we produce ranges from Acer to Ziziphus and consists of more than 500 different species, cultivars and varieties.

We plant 100,000 rootstocks every year, which we deliver as twice transplanted trees of sizes 6-8 to 10-12 cm. In addition, we plant another 50,000 trees of sizes 6-8 and 8-10 cm, which we continue to grow as three times transplanted trees up to sizes 12-14 to 25-30 cm in trunk circumference (see also our assortment list). We also produce 35,000 trees in containers every year.

95% of Combinatie Mauritz’s avenue trees are exported to the following European countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Austria, Poland, Romania, Russia, Scandinavia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Turkey and Switzerland.
